Pedal Trash Can Makeover

I purchased a new trash can for my guest bath and needed one for my back patio for smaller items on the way to the trash bin. When I looked at the condition of the lid, the wheels immediately started turning as to how I could do an easy makeover to get a wee bit more mileage out of this pedal trash can.

What a “metal lid disaster!” Most people wouldn’t think twice about throwing this pedal trash can in the dumpster. I happened to remember some tile decals I’d seen at Dollar Tree. They really have some attractive ones. I fell in love with these and bought three because I knew I’d have to match the tiny squares up to follow the pattern.

I laid the first one out on top of “the lid disaster” to best decide how to begin cutting.

I took the backing off of this first one centering it on top of the trash can lid and gently smoothed it out.

Following the pattern I filled in the edges all the way around with matching adhesive tiles and cut them to size. Here’s the end result:

Voila! I now have a trash can with a little more mileage for less than $2.50! I only used two of the tile decals…

Hope the wheels in your head might be turning as to what you can refurbish with these elegant tile decals from the Dollar Tree! Be sure and comment below with a picture of what you refurbished! I’d love to see your creativity!
