Second Hand Treasures

Ya just never know what you might find when you are in the right place at the right time. Back in the day I used to go to a lot of Garage Sales and I looked upon each one as a TREASURE HUNT! Because quite honestly, you never know what you are going to find. The same applies to Second Hand Stores…like the Salvation Army Store, Goodwill, Estate Sales and so on…

I have a friend who went to her neighbors garage sale and the lady had a bucket of jewelry that she picked through. She found Turquoise Earrings from an Hopi Artist, Real Silver Button Covers and a few other jewelry pieces. There was one dirty ring in the bucket that she was relatively sure was real. She bought it for a QUARTER! (Yes-Twenty-Five-Cents)! She went home and soaked and scrubbed it until it was clean and sparkly. Turns out the ring was sapphires and diamonds with an CARAT diamond in the center. Without removing all of the stones, the closest appraised value the jeweler could arrive at was $2,000-$5,000. Not bad for a quarter. Unheard of really. Because she did not care for the ring itself, she had the diamond made into a slide for a necklace. WHO KNEW?!! She surely hit the jack pot!

I have a neighbor of my own that has a fair amount of garage sales and since she’s just a few houses down, I love to take a peek at what she has just for fun! A few weeks ago, I bought the Teal Vase pictured above and quite honestly, I had NO IDEA where I was going to put it. And to be honest with you, because I’m trying to down size and get rid of things, I sort of kicked myself! BUT,… I just knew I loved it and the COLOR. I was literally shocked when I looked in my hallway at my Walnut Cabinet with my stained glass hummingbirds! I had a large white vase on the cabinet that I found a new home for in my living room and replaced it with the Teal vase. It didn’t hit me right away but when I looked at my Teal Hummingbirds eating nectar from the flower, I was astounded. I mean seriously now,…could it match any more perfectly than THIS? I think not!

So my point is, check out second hand stores and garage sales! You just might be surprised what you find! A perfect decor piece, a piece of jewelry that you pay twenty-five cents for that appraises at an astronomical amount of money or another treasure that compliments one of the rooms in your home! UTTER PERFECTION!
